Description:

The goal of this tender is to design, construct, and operate an advanced recirculating open-water channel. The system will allow researchers at the Sexton Campus of Dalhousie University to generate steady and unsteady currents, programmable wave fields (optional), and controlled sediment beds (optional) to replicate a wide range of ocean conditions. Key capabilities include:

  • High-speed, continuous recirculation of large water volumes to simulate strong tidal or storm-driven flows.

  • Test section length should be transparent to allow for advanced visualization technologies such as high-speed imaging, particle image velocimetry, and laser-induced fluorescence.

  • Adaptability for industry prototyping, allowing companies to rapidly iterate on physical designs.

  • Controlled and repeatable conditions, enabling precise parameter tuning and side-by-side comparison of technology variants.

This facility will serve as a comprehensive testbed for understanding and optimizing offshore renewable energy structures, including foundations, anchors, floating platforms, moorings, protective coatings, and scour mitigation systems.
