Dalhousie University is seeking Real Time Cell Monitoring Equipment to study Host-Microbe Interactions in the Female Genital Tract. The Lithgow Research Group investigates the molecular mechanisms used by vaginal microbiota to modulate endocervical susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as syphilis, and trigger pregnancy complications. The requested equipment will enable in vitro modelling of anaerobic vaginal bacteria and their interactions with genital tract cells. This research and infrastructure will position the Lithgow Lab to significantly advance knowledge of female genital tract infections and microbiome imbalances to identify new therapeutic avenues targeting the bacterial activities that drive adverse health outcomes.
